Mumbai City FC will begin their MG Indian Super League 2026-27 campaign against Churchill Brothers FC at the Fatorda Stadium on 11th October as the Islanders look to kick-start their season with a positive result.
With the new season set to get underway, Mumbai City face an early test in their opening fixture against an opponent making their league debut. Head Coach Manolo Márquez stressed the importance of staying focused on his own team’s performance. “We know that Churchill Brothers will be a difficult opponent, so we need to be focused on ourselves and make sure we play a good game. It is important for us to start the season well, and our aim is to give our best, perform as a team and try to get the three points,” he said.
Reflecting on the build-up to the season, the Head Coach spoke about the team’s preparations and the squad at his disposal. “We had a seven-week pre-season, which gave us time to work on our preparation, although we had some challenges with players being away. We are satisfied with the squad we have, and the players have worked hard during this period. Now, the focus is on taking that work into the season and continuing to improve as a team,” he added.
Lalnuntluanga Bawitlung, who joined the club last season, spoke about his progress and the mood in the group ahead of the new campaign. “Joining Mumbai City last season was not difficult because there were a lot of experienced players who helped me adapt to the team. This season, with new players and an experienced coach, I am looking forward to improving further. During pre-season, I have learned a lot, especially about playing forward and making better decisions on the ball. I want to keep working hard, follow the coach’s instructions and help the team have a good season,” he said.
With the first match of the season approaching, Mumbai City will look to carry the intensity and lessons from pre-season onto the pitch and set the tone for the months ahead. The match will kick off at 7:30 PM on Sunday, 11 October 2026, and will be broadcast live on Sony Sports Network and streamed on Sony LIV, with free streaming also available on YouTube. Live updates will be available across the Club’s official social media handles.
