Mumbai City FC are all set to take on Bengaluru FC in their upcoming fixture of the 2022/23 Indian Super League season. The Islanders return to action following a phenomenal 6-2 win against Chennaiyin FC this past weekend away in Chennai. The Islanders will welcome Bengaluru FC to the Mumbai Football Arena on the 17th of November 2022, with the game kicking off at 7.30pm IST.
The Islanders are unbeaten after the first six games of the 2022/23 ISL season. Des Buckingham's side have won 3 games and drawn 3. Hyderabad FC, who sit atop the Indian Super League table, are the only other team who have not lost in the league so far. The Islanders drew 3-3 with the Nizams in their opening game and then went on to register a deserved 2-0 win against Odisha FC. The Islanders’ following games saw them draw 1-1 with Jamshedpur FC at home, after which they recorded a convincing 2-0 win against Kerala Blasters FC in an away game and an action-packed 2-2 draw against ATK Mohun Bagan at home in the game after. Their most recent game against Chennaiyin FC saw them register a stellar 6-2 comeback win from 0-2 down away from home in which 6 different players got on the scoresheet for the Islanders.
Bengaluru FC won their opening game of the 2022/23 ISL season, 1-0 against NorthEast United FC. However, the Blues however have struggled to perform since. They drew 1-1 against Chennaiyin FC in their second fixture of the ISL season. Coming into tomorrow's clash, Bengaluru FC has recorded three 1-0 losses on the trot to Hyderabad FC, Odisha FC and East Bengal FC.
Coach Des Buckingham in the pre-match press conference talked about the team’s style of play going into the match against Bengaluru FC and said, “We used the Durand Cup as an opportunity to prepare ourselves for the ISL season and the big focus has been making sure that we could continue from where we left off at the Champions League. It was about making sure that we started the season well and getting better every round. The way that I think we've played, certainly in the last six games, I feel that we've done that, and we are starting to show how we want to play more often and for longer periods within the games.”
He went on to add, “We've got different ways that we can play this year with different personnel and all those ingredients are very important to making sure we come away with more results for both this game coming up against Bengaluru FC and going forward this season.”
Coach Buckimgham was accompanied by Rahul Bheke who signed off by highlighting the importance of the atmosphere at the Mumbai Football Arena ahead of the game against Bengaluru FC, “The crowd really helped me and as well as the team in the ATK Mohun Bagan game. The support in the stands was massive for us and I'm looking forward to have more fans in the stands tomorrow. It's a very important game for us and one I am looking forward to at the Mumbai Football Arena."
