Mumbai City FC are set to take on Chennaiyin FC in their upcoming fixture of the 2022/23 Indian Super League (ISL) season. The Islanders will travel to Chennai to take on the Marina Machans. Mumbai City FC, in their most recent ISL game, shared the points with ATK Mohun Bagan at home after an action-packed 2-2 draw. Mumbai City FC will be welcomed by Chennaiyin FC to the Marina Arena in Chennai, also known as Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium on the 12th of November 2022, the game will kick-off at 7.30 pm IST.

The Islanders are unbeaten after the first five games of the 2022/23 ISL season. They have won 2 games and drawn 3 games. Their attacking start to the season has seen them score 10 goals across the first five matches and are the second most prolific team only behind ATK Mohun Bagan. After drawing 3-3 with Hyderabad FC in their opening game, the Islanders went on to register a deserved 2-0 win against Odisha FC. Mumbai City FC’s subsequent game saw them draw  1-1 with Jamshedpur FC at home, after which they recorded a convincing 2-0 win against Kerala Blasters FC in an away game. Their most recent fixture against ATK Mohun Bagan ended in a 2-2 draw and was a highly entertaining match. Despite an exceptional attacking performance by the Islanders and the Mariners going down to 10 men, they were unable to come away with all 3 points.

Chennaiyin FC won their opening game of the 2022/23 ISL season, 2-1 against ATK Mohun Bagan. However, the Marina Machans have struggled to perform since the opening game. They drew 1-1 against Bengaluru FC in their second fixture and lost 2-0 to FC Goa in their third game. Chennaiyin FC’s most recent game against East Bengal was a feisty one, in which both teams had a player sent off but the game ended 1-0 in favour of the Marina Machans as they recorded their second win of the campaign.

Coach Des Buckingham in the pre-match press conference talked about the team’s performances so far and their mindset for the game against Chennaiyin FC, as he said, “The pleasing thing for me is that we are creating so many chances and it's not just creating chances it's how we create the chances. It's important that we finish more of the
opportunities that come our way to make sure we put the game to bed so that it becomes a little bit more manageable for us and the earlier the better. But for me, it's just making sure of our game style. It's making sure that we can create the same quality and number of chances against Chennaiyin FC and if we create even half the chances in the game, we will come away with the result we are looking for.”

Coach Buckingham was accompanied by Sanjeev Stalin who spoke about the coach’s expectations of him this season, as he said, “The Coach always has a plan for each and every game, so he just instructs me before the game as to what I have to do. So, we have to stick to his plan. We understand sometimes he has to make some decisions that are very
important for the team to perform. So as a player it is all about keeping a good mindset to win. We just have to do whatever he asks of us and thanks to him we have had a very positive start to the season.”

Buckingham signed off by saying, “If we are able to do and build on what we've done the last four or five games we can continue to stay at the right end of the table. Again, we have a challenge for us this weekend against Chennaiyin FC. Then we play Bengaluru FC and Northeast United before we have a small break.  We have to make sure that we are in a
good position before that, because it will help us to build and improve as the season continues.”
